This album originates from the recording of a morning live improvisation I did at DAS - Dispositivo Arti Sperimentali - in Bologna, Italy in October 2019, kindly invited by the Metochรฉ association for the "Termos" series.

It mostly consisted of different style of analog synthesis using a self-assembled modular synthesizer. There was also a small part in which I used digital cut-ups of random samples from my hard drive using a Max/MSP patch inspired by the techniques of Burroughs and Gysin.

I usually improvise with other musicians because I enjoy surprises and the necessity of adaptation. I learn a lot during and after that process, re-examining my moves as in a chess game or a cybernetic system.

When Iโ€™m alone I play with the other acoustic โ€˜opponentโ€™: the room. Itโ€™s always interesting how different spaces react. I often start by scanning the resonant frequencies of the space with large arpeggios and continue by positioning on each frequency, trying to make the room resonate and relax.

I thought this โ€˜breathingโ€™ exercise would be interesting for a morning set but when I listened back to it I found that I enjoyed it very much at night too, hence the title.
